Sage MCP server (Sage 50 and Sage 100)

Sage sits in the engine room of many mid-sized businesses: accounting, inventory management, payroll. But anyone who wants a report clicks through forms, and anyone looking for a document opens lists. An MCP layer puts exactly these Sage functions at your AI agent's disposal: ask instead of click, address documents and contacts through the Sage API, with an approval step and audit log.

Why Sage and AI agents so often miss each other

Sage 50 and Sage 100 are firmly established among mid-sized companies in Germany, as the backbone of accounting, inventory management and ERP. The problem is rarely the software itself but access: anyone who wants to know quickly how high the outstanding receivables are or which item sold best last quarter has to work through modules and list views. This distance between “I have a question” and “the answer is in Sage” can be closed with an AI integration.

An MCP server for Sage is the bridge. Through the open Model Context Protocol, an AI agent (Claude, GPT, Gemini or Copilot) gets standardised, controlled access to the Sage objects that count in day-to-day business: documents, contacts and items. Instead of building a separate script for every report, you talk to your data in natural language.

Honest assessment: We are not aware of an official, ready-made MCP server from Sage for Sage 50 or Sage 100 (German versions). In the community there are individual projects for other Sage products, such as Sage 50 UK or Sage Business Cloud Accounting; they do not fit the German versions without further work. For your system, we therefore build the MCP layer individually on the Sage API available in each case or on a REST connector. This is cleanly doable, but it is a tailored setup, not a click-and-done plugin.

Use cases: what can be done with Sage and MCP?

  1. Querying documents instead of searching “Show me all open documents from supplier Müller over €1,000.” The agent reads the matching documents from Sage and summarises them, without you setting filters or scrolling lists.
  2. Maintaining contacts and master data New customers or suppliers arrive from the CRM or a form as a structured contact in Sage. The agent reports when the VAT ID, IBAN or address data is missing: master data maintenance without duplicate entry.
  3. Item and stock questions “Which items had the highest revenue in May?” or “How many units of item 4711 are still in stock?” The agent pulls the item objects from Sage and answers directly.
  4. Open items view & dunning proposals The agent checks the open items, sorts by due date and customer value and drafts staggered reminder emails. Nothing is sent until you approve.
  5. Reporting in plain language Recurring reports (revenue by customer, cost of goods, outstanding receivables) become a simple question instead of a click-through across Sage modules.
  6. Handover to accounting The monthly routine as a guided checklist: are all documents captured? Are there any unusual accounts? The agent generates a short summary before the data goes to the tax advisor.

How the connection works technically

The architecture overview for Sage looks like this:

KI-Agent ↔ MCP-Server (Ihr EU-Host) ↔ Sage-API / REST-Connector ↔ Sage 50 oder Sage 100

Which concrete route fits depends on the product, and that is exactly what we check in advance:

In short: The question is not whether Sage can be connected to an AI agent, but by which route: cloud API or desktop connector. Both are feasible; we clarify the right one in the advance check before we start.

GDPR, EU hosting and security at Sage

Accounting and inventory data are among the most sensitive holdings of a business: revenue figures, supplier terms, personal data in contacts. A Sage AI integration must therefore be designed with data protection in mind from the start. What we pay attention to in every Sage MCP setup:

What such a project includes

A Sage MCP project does not start with code but with a short advance check: which Sage version is running, which interface route is available, which use cases bring relief fastest. Only then is it clear how much effort the integration really is.

A realistic picture from practice (an anonymised, realistic sketch, not a specific reference): a trading company with Sage 100 starts with two read use cases, stock queries and a weekly open-items overview in plain language. Once the team has gained confidence, creating contact drafts from the web form follows. The concrete figure and duration always depend on the interface route, and that is exactly what we clarify in the free initial call.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a ready-made MCP server for Sage 50 or Sage 100 yet?

We are not aware of an official, ready-made MCP server from Sage for the German versions Sage 50 and Sage 100. In the community there are individual projects for other Sage products, such as Sage 50 UK or Sage Business Cloud Accounting; they do not fit the German versions without further work, and we check every third-party server individually before use. For your system, we build the MCP layer on the Sage API available in each case or on a REST connector.

Which interface is used to connect Sage?

That depends on the product. Sage Business Cloud offers a REST/JSON API with OAuth 2.0. For the desktop variants Sage 50 and Sage 100, access runs through the respective programme interface or a REST connector. Which route works cleanly in your case, we clarify in the advance check, without promises up front that we cannot keep.

Which Sage objects can the AI agent address?

The focus is on objects from day-to-day business: documents, contacts and items. Reading is usually uncritical and quick to implement; write actions, such as creating a contact or posting a document, always go through an approval step.

Can a Sage connection via MCP be implemented in line with data protection?

Yes, if the chain is right: we host the MCP server in the EU or in the customer's network, the AI model runs with EU data residency and a data processing agreement (DPA), and the agent gets access only to the fields it really needs for the task at hand. Where each part of the chain processes data, we document before the start.

How quickly is a first Sage automation productive?

That depends on whether a cloud API or a desktop connector is used. With clean REST access it is faster; with desktop installations, the connector setup comes on top. We set the timeline after the AI Check.

Which AI models work?

All MCP-compatible models: Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot. A later change of model is possible without a new integration, because MCP abstracts the interface.
