Propstack MCP Server: Possibilities and Limits

Is there an official Propstack MCP server?

No. In its developer documentation, Propstack points to an MCP server but expressly labels it a community project by an external developer. Propstack does not develop, operate, review or support this server and accepts no liability. Use is at your own risk.

The project itself is open source, licensed under the MIT licence and actively maintained. It uses the normal Propstack API. For an estate agency, it is a workable starting point, but not a product with a support contract. We explain separately what an MCP server is in principle.

The community project at a glance

What the community server can do

According to the project description, the server covers the most important areas of the estate agent CRM:

• Contacts: search, create, change, tag, with a full overview before the call.
• Properties: filter by price, rooms, area and status, create and change.
• Deals and pipeline: create deals, change stages, overviews per stage.
• Search profiles: create from plain language, such as “3 rooms in Berlin, up to €400,000, with balcony”, and match against new properties.
• Tasks and appointments: conversation notes, follow-up reminders, viewings.
• Emails: template emails linked to contact and property.

Propstack itself points out that the actual scope depends on the state of the project. The documentation on GitHub is authoritative.

Which AI assistants work

The Propstack documentation names ChatGPT, Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Cursor. The project description makes this more precise: only desktop clients such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Cursor can start it locally via npx. ChatGPT and the claude.ai apps for browser and mobile connect only to remote servers via an HTTPS address.

The developer expressly warns against exposing the server to the internet through an open tunnel or a bridge without sign-in. Anyone who knows the address would otherwise have read and write access to your CRM with your API key. If your team works in the browser or in ChatGPT, a secured server is therefore mandatory.

Connecting Claude Desktop to Propstack: the steps

1. Create an API key: In Propstack under Administration → API keys. According to Propstack, you can also edit the key's permissions there and see in logs which requests it was used for. Give the key only the rights the assistant needs.
2. Install Node.js, if not already present.
3. Add the server in Claude Desktop, in the file claude_desktop_config.json:

4. Restart Claude Desktop and test with a read-only question, such as “Which properties are currently in the marketing status?”.
5. Test write access in a controlled way first, as Propstack itself recommends, before your team changes contacts or deals via chat.

Data protection and security

With the server, personal data flows from Propstack into the language model you connect. The project description states that, as a Propstack customer, you remain the controller within the meaning of the GDPR. Propstack lists these points for use:

• use only API keys with the necessary permissions,
• check whether the AI client forwards requests to external models or services,
• test write access in a controlled environment first,
• clarify in advance which contact, property and case data reaches AI systems,
• keep an eye on updates to the third-party project.

Community server or own integration?

For a test on your own computer, the community project is enough. As soon as several people work with it, customer data is to end up in ChatGPT or a process is to run without a chat, your own integration with clear permissions and an audit log is worthwhile.

Is there an official Propstack MCP server?

No. The Propstack documentation points to the community project “propstack-mcp” by an external developer. Propstack does not operate, review or support it.

Does the Propstack MCP server work with ChatGPT?

Only with effort. ChatGPT connects exclusively to remote servers via an HTTPS address. The community server runs locally by default; for ChatGPT it has to be secured and operated online with sign-in.

Which API key does the server need?

A Propstack API key, which you create under Administration → API keys. The permissions can be edited there. Give the key only the rights the assistant needs.

Can the AI change data in Propstack through the server?

Yes, according to the project description, the server can also create and change contacts, properties, deals, tasks and search profiles. Propstack recommends testing write access in a controlled environment first.

Who is liable if something goes wrong?

Propstack gives no warranty and accepts no liability for the community project; support is only available via GitHub from the maintainer. For use in a team with customer data, a managed operation with clearly defined responsibility is therefore advisable.
